The best bit of working at LlamaZOO isn’t just being part of the amazing projects we work on, it’s not even our lush downtown office in Victoria – it’s our zootastic culture and values that drive us to create everyday. One of our most important values is to work fearlessly and we incorporate this into who we are as well as what we do.
This weekend a brave LlamaZOO development team is embarking on an adventure to the Unearthed Hackathon, Vancouver. Teck Resources and SSR Mining will open real challenges and large data sets to teams of local developers and startups to come together to build prototype solutions over the course of 54 hours.
We know we have experience in handling large amounts of complex data and our previous mine visualisation projects such as Coal Mountain 2 VR will hopefully give us that competitive edge – but nerves will be put to the test!
We are wishing our team lots of luck and cheering them on as they undertake this epic challenge – watch this space for updates on how the Hackathon went down! Can’t wait that long..follow our twitter for the latest news.

Wow – what a weekend. The 54 hours straight hackathon by Unearthed was sponsored by leading mining companies, who challenged teams of innovators and entrepreneurs to develop prototype solutions for real problems within their mining operations…and we claimed second prize! WOOHOO!
Our team approached the challenge to optimize haul truck performance and presented a solution which included a digital twin of the mine that allows a supervisor to observe current haul truck cycles and modify routes to guide operators. In addition to that, they created a prototype operator cab with a digital screen display which guides drives to their optimal route to improve performance and overall operations.
